Early Life & Political Career of N. Rangaswamy
N. Rangasamy was born on 4 August 1950 in Puducherry to parents Natesan Krishnasamy Gounder and Panchali Ammal. He belongs to a Vanniyar Tamil family. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Tagore Arts College and BL from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College of Puducherry. Before entering politics, he serves as an assistant to the Minister of Puducherry V Pethaperumal. He started his political career in the Thattanchavady constituency in 1990, he lost against V. Pethaperumal JD got 9,503 votes and N. Rangasamy got 8,521 votes.
He won the 1991 assembly election with an overwhelming majority and was appointed Minister for Agriculture and Co-operation. Rangaswamy was again re-elected to the same constituency in 1996. In 2000, he took over as the Minister of Tourism, Education, Public Works, Civil Aviation, and Arts and Culture. In the 2001 Assembly elections, he won from Thattanchavady constituency and took over as the Minister of Public Works, Agriculture and Forests. He took over as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on 27 October the same year.
